I first saw this kind of technology in the feature, "Demolition man". And in other films like "5th Element" they had the cars flying. I was like, ok, 'Hollywood done lost its freaking mind'.

Well they have not!

As a matter of fact, they know exactly what they're doing. I came across a few articles about adaptive cruise control and flying cars, at first I could not believe i was reading what I was reading. I'll post the links to the full articles here...

"The adaptive cruise control feature is an enhancement of the standard cruise control system. In heavy traffic it maintains a preset distance to the vehicle in front, within specific system limits."

Adaptive cruise control is implemented to make driving safer and easier. You can preset speeds between 19 and 124 mph without experiencing a time lag as in earlier systems. You can also select one of four types of acceleration: Distance 1 (sports); Distances 2 and 3 (standard); or Distance 4 (comfortable). Real full article...

- Distronic proximity and cruise control system now fitted in 40, 000 cars worldwide.

A radar sensor behind the radiator grille enables the system to maintain a constant distance to the vehicle in front. DISTRONIC thus significantly enhances driver comfort, especially on heavily congested stretches of road, by reducing stress at the wheel and making driving more relaxing. The findings of the DaimlerChrysler research division show that the reaction time of drivers using DISTRONIC is up to 40 per cent faster than that of those without this assistance system - Read full article...

- Chrysler 300 Cars Equipped With Hella's Adaptive Cruise Control - Auto News from November 14, 2006

DETROIT, Nov. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The luxurious Chrysler 300 Limited and Chrysler 300C are the first vehicles offering tier-one automotive supplier Hella's LIDAR-based (LIght Detection and Ranging) adaptive cruise control (ACC) technology as optional equipment late in the 2007 model year. - Read full article...

If you know more about this technology or about flying cars...lol, please post comments.
